Native Foraging, West Sacramento

An under-utilized back yard was turned into a space for a large family to gather, play, and most uniquely, forage. A palette of edible Northern California native plants was selected alongside traditional garden species as a way to create a unique foraging garden, where nearly all plants in the yard have edible qualities (such as leaves for making tea, fruits and berries for eating, and herbs for cooking.) Inside the perimeter of the planter areas is water-saving native turf, which was installed for dogs, children, friends, and family to run around, play games, use and enjoy.
